Citywide Layoff Information

IMPORTANT UPDATE! (Updated March 19, 2010)

As a result of the positive discussions on the alternatives to proposed layoffs and reorganization with the city’s labor leaders, the Mayor has agreed to an extension of the moratorium on the processing of layoffs of employees to whom the City plans to make offers of part-time employment pursuant to its reorganization of services. The moratorium has been extended an additional seven calendar days, to close of business on Friday, March 26, 2010. During the moratorium, no new surveys or requests about the layoff process and offers of return to duty will be made to such employees. As a result, updates and employment offers for these employees will begin no sooner than the week of April 5, 2010.

Please note that the effective date of the layoffs has been extended to Friday, May 14, 2010, close of business. In addition, the deadline for severance pay elections is extended to April 2, 2010, and the deadline for responses to current web-based interest surveys is extended to March 29, 2010.

During the moratorium, departments will be communicating with employees for whom we expect there will be no offer of part-time employment, regardless of the outcome of our ongoing discussions with labor organizations. The Department of Human Resources Layoff Team may contact these employees during the moratorium period to discuss relevant return-to-duty opportunities via displacement, reinstatement, or abridgement of leave.
